Frequently asked questions about the EU AI Act

What does the EU AI Act regulate?+

The EU AI Act is an EU regulation that classifies AI systems by risk (prohibited, high-risk, limited and minimal risk) and assigns different obligations per class — for example transparency, risk management, technical documentation and human oversight. Classifying a specific use case is the task of a legal assessment.

When does which part of the EU AI Act apply?+

The regulation entered into force in August 2024 and applies in stages. Prohibited AI practices already apply, rules for General-Purpose AI from August 2025, and full application from August 2026. Exact timing and interpretation may be further refined by guidelines and national implementation.

Who is affected by the EU AI Act?+

Providers and deployers of AI systems that are placed on the market or used in the EU are affected — regardless of where the provider is based. Specific obligations vary by role (provider, deployer, importer) and risk class. Individual classification should be coordinated with qualified lawyers.

Which tools can support EU AI Act compliance?+

HOVIGuard provides building blocks that support typical requirements: audit trail for traceability, transparency about deployed models and risk class, configurable usage policies per team and EU hosting of application data. The platform supports the implementation — full compliance additionally depends on internal processes, roles and a legal assessment.

Does HOVIGuard make my company automatically EU AI Act compliant?+

No. HOVIGuard provides technical tools that support implementation — such as documentation, audit log and model transparency. Legal assessment of a use case and organisational implementation of obligations remain the responsibility of the company and should be coordinated with qualified lawyers.
